Decided to play here on Saturday before heading back up North to the cold and snow. Was told by the starter that going Public hasn't hurt conditions because the type of golfers in this area are mostly, better than average. Lowering the prices ($60) has increased the play and added revenue for improvements (course/facilities) overall.

With five (5) tees ranging from 6,769yds down to 4,661yds you can pick your comfort level on this 1996 Rees Jones challenging Par 36/36 layout. Generous landing areas from the correct tees, forced (water/swamp) carries, narrow tee chutes leading to larger sized smooth greens rolling true at 9-10. Found the winter conditions today, the best I;ve seen in a long time. I chose to play from the Blues 3,183/3,177yds / 71.3 / 138 today and had good landing areas for my 210-230yd drives.

Starting out with a 514yd Par 5 and water RH side with sand protecting LH side of green plays well to its hcp 4 ranking. Follow that up with an 147yd Par 3 that has water protecting the front...so make the right club selection. The #3 is a 381yd LH dogleg that's sweeping around a swamp of no return if you stray. The #4 is straight away narrow 393yd Par 4 that has water down the LH side. The #6 Par 3 is a all water carry to the green 176yds away. The #9 is a feel good 327yd Par 4, giving you confidence to start the Back 9. Holes 10 Par 4 & 11 Par 3 are easy pars , But now the real course raises its teeth. The #12 is a 422yd RH dogleg that has a hcp 1 ranking for a good reason. (Bogey is ok). The #13 is a 536yd Par 5 hcp 3 that starts with a narrow driving chute to a fairway that's wider than it looks from the tee box. The #14 is a short 294yd Par 4 but has 200-210yd water carry if you go straight for the green from the blues and much further from 324yd Black. Rest of the way is mostly narrow fairways with trees/swamps catching those shots that stray. The #18 is a tuff and tight 382yd finishing hole with front traps awaiting those short shots.

Enjoyed shooting 40/40 w/34putts on this challenging layout today. Worth the stop.

Played here 6-30-15 for the military rate of $115. Price is high, since the course itself is OK, but not superlative. However, it's the only course for 20 miles down NC Rt-12 though Duck, which can be a very trying drive, to Duck Woods Country Club or to Sea Scape. So, one balances the differential price (about $20), versus the commuting hassle...and there's the decision! Personally, I'd prefer my frustrations on the golf course, so I played here.

The course itself is nice enough, not much terrain variation, so it's sand, water, and trees. Still, the layout is interesting, and pretty fair. Tee boxes are flat, landing areas generous, and greens quite large. Most greens are sloped, some contours, but nothing too terrible. Lotsa bunkers. Carts have GPS (don't see that too much any more, what with handhelds so prevalent).

Conditions today were good. Fairways in good shape, with only a few bare spots on very few holes. Greens were surprisingly slow. Bunkers were a bit inconsistent.

Course is pretty compact on the front nine, but strung out over some serious distances on the back. I don't recco walking, especially for seniors like me.

Staff was uniformly excellent: courteous, friendly and knowledgeable. Obviously well-trained! I recommend...
